Tow/impound first steps

Slow down a private-property tow before the fee becomes the only story.

Use this when: A vehicle is tagged, being hooked, already impounded, or the property says a tow was authorized.

First move

Photograph the sign, space, vehicle position, and any tow notice before paying or moving the car.

Do first

  1. Check whether the vehicle is still on site. If it is, document the space and contact the property before it leaves.
  2. Ask who authorized the tow, what rule was violated, and where that rule is written.
  3. If the car is already impounded, ask the tow yard for an itemized invoice before paying.

Save as proof

  • Photos of signs, lot entrance, space number, vehicle position, and tow notice.
  • Names, phone numbers, timestamps, and messages from the property or tow company.
  • Receipt or invoice, especially storage fees, gate fees, mileage, and release time.

Log in when

  • The sign, warning, or registration rule is unclear.
  • Fees look inflated or the tow reason does not match the property rule.
  • The vehicle is damaged, stranded, or blocking school/work transportation.
